Atheism=religion.

After having a conversation with a zealous atheist, I was so shocked at how much he sounded like the religious zealots I've encountered. He used the exact same reasoning for his conclusions, and did some of the same things that have frustrated me in conversations with religious zealots-- such as answering questions until I asked the one that hit too close to the truth, and then all of a sudden saying "I don't have to answer that" :/ Lol. He even said something that reminded me so much of something a Jehovah's witness said once that I literally laughed out loud.

Anyway, I started thinking about atheists and how passionately they pursue this idea that there is no god. Of course, there are atheists who quietly go about their business just like there are religious people who do.. but for the ones that don't, the ones that just as fervently try to disprove "god" as religious people fervently try to prove it.. atheists, in their quest to disspell god, have created their own religion.

All it takes is a quick trip to the dictionary to know that atheism does not automatically rule out being religious. Sample definitions: The doctrine that there is no God or gods. Disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.. etc etc. Not one of the definitions said anything about a lack of religion, dislike of religion, disclusion of religion..This is something I myself have forgotten because, during our debate he kept referring to atheists as people who were against "religion" when in fact, that's not at all what atheism refers to. Atheism, by definition, is the belief that there is no God...but religion, by definition, does not HAVE to include God(s).

There are a ton of definitions for religion, some of them include reference to some kind of supernatural power, but some of them say, plain as day, that religion is "the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices"

Atheism is definitely a religion. They come together and form organizations, write pamphlets and publish books, go on self-proclaimed "missions" to bring godlessness to the masses.. everything that the people he calls "religious nuts" do, atheists do as well. Atheists subscribe to a particular set of ideas, and put these ideas into practice in their everyday lives.. like any Christian or Muslim.

In reality, he was HUGELY mistaken because his whole idea of what it is to be an "atheist" is wrong.. an atheist is NOT somebody who is against religion but is against the idea of God. Yes, most religions include some form of a god but that is not the definition of what it is to be an atheist.. so while he's running around proclaiming that he's on an atheistic mission to stop religion... he himself is becoming part of a religion, albeit an atheistic one.

It's all the same crap. Why can't people just be ok with not knowing one way or the other?

Believing in atheism is a non-sequitur. The fashionable pseudo-atheists give atheism a bad name.
