I hear women (and occasionally men) say this "chivalry is dead" .. and I totally agree. However, unlike the women who usually say this, I'm really happy about that.
Chivalry is a remnant of a time when women were considered inferior, weak, possessions to be protected.. (this post is not an assertion that much has changed.)
Maybe it's nice to have somebody rush to open the door for you but the fact is that the thought-process that goes into this gesture is the same thought-process that goes into the "bad" gestures that men have historically made towards women (such as, not allowing them to vote.) If we, as women, don't want to be treated as inferior when it works to our disadvantage, we can't say it's acceptable when it happens to work in our advantage. If he can open your door for you because you're a woman, he can also deny you a job because you're a woman.
If somebody does something nice for me, I want it to be based on something other than the fact that I have a vagina. Whoever gets to the door first should open it first, and please stop pulling out my chair for me to sit down. Next time somebody does that to me, I'm going to call them to come wipe me the next time I'm in the bathroom.
Chivalry is dead...thankfully.

Yet another reason to hate Chris Brown.
(Chris wearing a bowtie and pondering
one of life's more difficult questions
during his obligatory post-arrest late
night interview) As if his complete lack of talent and undeserved fame weren't enough. For those of you who don't know, Chris Brown is a pop-star, most recently popular for being arrested after beating up his equally-famous girlfriend.
I learned yesterday that Chris Brown has an unusually high number of extremely overweight fans. How do I know this? Because I got trampled by about 30 of them earlier yesterday. All I wanted to do was ride the stupid rides@ stupid King's Dominion, but no- Chris Brown decides to show up with his whole entourage including police, which I found funny-- the big, bad wife beater needs an army of security to go out in the real world. Anyway, his presence caused me to be trampled by a mob of huge (in the literal sense) fans. I wanted to tell these idiot girls to run away from domestic violence, not towards it, but I decided I'd rather take advantage of the fact that the lines were nonexistent because 90% of the people in the park were running after Chris Brown with their camera phones.
The ironic thing is, I probably got closer to Chris Brown than any of his fans because unlike them, I continued to carry on my day like nothing was going on. As I was getting off a roller coaster and going down the exit ramp, Chris Brown & crew passed me going the other way, and for those of you who are curious yes, he looks even more like a waste of space in person than he does on tv.
Also, Chris Brown's even bigger, fatter friend decided to yell at me "Hey girl, c'mere!" and when I continued to walk without acknowledging him he says "with that scarecrow hair!" Maybe he was referencing the fact that my hair is blonde, or maybe be was referencing the fact that it was disheveled after just getting off a ROLLER COASTER. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he doesn't know what happens when you ride roller coasters because I'm pretty sure a man of his girth is unable to fit into any roller coaster. Or maybe, he was just upset that I didn't acknowledge his first yell. If I didn't even pay attention to the celebrity, WHY would I pay attention to you?

Atheism=religion.
After having a conversation with a zealous atheist, I was so shocked at how much he sounded like the religious zealots I've encountered. He used the exact same reasoning for his conclusions, and did some of the same things that have frustrated me in conversations with religious zealots-- such as answering questions until I asked the one that hit too close to the truth, and then all of a sudden saying "I don't have to answer that" :/ Lol. He even said something that reminded me so much of something a Jehovah's witness said once that I literally laughed out loud.
Anyway, I started thinking about atheists and how passionately they pursue this idea that there is no god. Of course, there are atheists who quietly go about their business just like there are religious people who do.. but for the ones that don't, the ones that just as fervently try to disprove "god" as religious people fervently try to prove it.. atheists, in their quest to disspell god, have created their own religion.
All it takes is a quick trip to the dictionary to know that atheism does not automatically rule out being religious. Sample definitions: The doctrine that there is no God or gods. Disbelief in the existence of a supreme being or beings.. etc etc. Not one of the definitions said anything about a lack of religion, dislike of religion, disclusion of religion..This is something I myself have forgotten because, during our debate he kept referring to atheists as people who were against "religion" when in fact, that's not at all what atheism refers to. Atheism, by definition, is the belief that there is no God...but religion, by definition, does not HAVE to include God(s).
There are a ton of definitions for religion, some of them include reference to some kind of supernatural power, but some of them say, plain as day, that religion is "the body of persons adhering to a particular set of beliefs and practices"
Atheism is definitely a religion. They come together and form organizations, write pamphlets and publish books, go on self-proclaimed "missions" to bring godlessness to the masses.. everything that the people he calls "religious nuts" do, atheists do as well. Atheists subscribe to a particular set of ideas, and put these ideas into practice in their everyday lives.. like any Christian or Muslim.
In reality, he was HUGELY mistaken because his whole idea of what it is to be an "atheist" is wrong.. an atheist is NOT somebody who is against religion but is against the idea of God. Yes, most religions include some form of a god but that is not the definition of what it is to be an atheist.. so while he's running around proclaiming that he's on an atheistic mission to stop religion... he himself is becoming part of a religion, albeit an atheistic one.
It's all the same crap. Why can't people just be ok with not knowing one way or the other?
